Goldfish Not Go Fish

No kidding there really is an association dedicated to Goldfish.  I was stumped in my search for a site to speak about today so I searched under the term Goldfish and came up with the American Goldfish Association.  The organization promotes the breeding of variants of the Goldfish.  The AGA hosts shows and also has chapters across the U.S.

Now here is something else that is interesting there is more than just one breed of Goldfish, how many?  I knew you would ask. Apparently about 18 different breeds are out there swimming in bowls, ponds and fish tanks.  Like any pet, a Goldfish needs to be taken care of in a certain way Desktop Goldfish is a site that talks about the care of the various breeds.

And, no I do not have a Goldfish, had one many years ago, the poor thing lasted a week. Ah ya not good with fish, nope not at all.

The Old Montreal Castle & Suites / Chateau Vieux Montreal

Chateau Vieux Montre/The Old Montreal Castle & Suites.  Nice name and nice place to stay while in Montreal.  Just so you know this is a luxury type of accommodation, were talking at least 400 per night.

They also have some pretty nice services you can take advantage of as well.  Imagine having your own personal chef, massages and of course beauty treatments for that special lady in your life.

Montreal is known as the European city of North America and in Europe there are castles so why not have one here in Montreal.  And, why not make it a place to stay and enjoy the Old Montreal area.

Got a cool blog, site on the web or interesting spot in Montreal.  Send an email to me and I will put a link to it here on Mixed nuts.  The email address is candidconverstions@hotmail.com.  The email address is also your link to Candid Conversations a blog that features stories from people around the world check out the blog and if you want to share your story that way send an email to candidconversations@hotmail.com.

Train Blogs

On Facebook I have been playing Trainstation.  A game that allows users to create trains and run them.  Steam, diesel, electric and maglev are all parts of the TS universe.

I am sort of a train buff, though I am more of a fan of the subway systems like Toronto's and Montreal's.  Still I ventured out on to the net and found some blogs about trains that may interest you.

Confessions of a Train Geek.  Author Steve Boyko, features articles and photographs of trains. a very well established blog that has been online since 2005.

Railroaded.  The pun is intentional, as this blog highlights the issue of accountability or lack of when it comes to how goods like oil are transported via rail.  The blog points out that in many cases communities are not even made aware of what is going on with respect to train routing, or what is in rail yards across Canada.

http://vienna-pyongyang.blogspot.ca in a word different.  This blog details a trip made by a guy named Helmut, from Vienna to Pyongyang.  Brave very brave.  Check it out.

Google has the scoop on blogs rail related the search I used to find these 3, railway blogs.

Enjoy

Web Gallery of Art

I am sure many of those reading this post know that lately in many places across the U.S. and Canada there has been shall we say a deep freeze.

That makes activity choices a little more smaller especially for parents of young children.  An activity like going to an art gallery would normally be curtailed in such cold weather, but thanks to the Internet parents and those interested in the arts can now take in fine art.

Dozens of galleries are now connected to the net and they offer a way to view what is on display at the gallery.  Some even go a step further and have an online exhibition site.

While searching for something to post here I looked at the Still Cool site and noted that a site called the Internet Art Gallery was not active.  To the Google search bar and a quick search term on the keyword online art galleries and I came up with a nice list.

I decided to click on to http://www.wga.hu and the Web Gallery of Art loaded up.  Nice site, it features a large collection.
The Web Gallery of Art is a virtual museum and searchable database of Western (European) fine arts of the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, and Impressionism periods (1000-1900), currently containing over 33.300 reproductions. - From the Front page of the site
I will be the first to admit that I have no clue about things art related.  That said, it is still a good idea to promote the arts and in particular those from human history.  I hope you find the site interesting.

A blog, site, something about Montreal that you want to share?  Post a comment with the link and I will take a peek and if it makes the grade, you'll get a notable note.  Thanks for dropping by.

Place Jean-Paul Riopelle Home of La Joute

In Montreal there are a lot of little out of the way places one can go to just enjoy some peace and quiet. If you are visiting the city or are a resident you may want to take in Place Jean-Paul Riopelle.  The square located in the Quarter International de Montreal.  Jean Paul Riopelle, a renowned artist who
grew up in Montreal is who the square is named after.

It is a beautiful area with a water fountain surrounded by flame and mist during the summer months.  In the summer from 7 to 11 each night is when one can see the display, it is called La Joute, in English the Joust.

Of course it's winter and the flame and mist are not active, still it is an interesting place to visit.  If only to take a few moments and enjoy a bit of quiet in the big city.

Murphy's Law Calculator

Murphy's Law states that if anything can go wrong it will.  It's an old law and yes everyone gets touched by it.

Now things have gone a step further, yes you can now calculate the probability of the laws impact via a website.  Now I do not know if this can be considered scientific, most likely it is not, but a calculator sounds like a lot of fun to play with in regards to this well known law then again maybe not, click over at your own risk.

Now if the task does go wrong and you used this site and the link from this site to get there and the calculator said noting would go wrong.  Hey just remember, you went there so don't blame me.

Oh and before I go wrong here is the link.  http://andrew.triumf.ca/cgi-bin/murphy.html

Quebec Charter of Values Hearings Live Stream

The Quebec Charter of Values or bill 60 is an act of law being proposed by the PQ government that would strip the right of civil servants to wear overt symbols of religion such as a large cross or head dress like a Niqab.  It also has within it's language a set of rules that would govern how requests for a reasonable accommodation are handled.

Many support the bill and many do not and it has created sometimes heated debate.
Many in the province say they will defy the law if it is enacted.  Hearings are now underway to gauge just how supported the bill is.  215 submissions will be heard from various groups.  These include hospitals, religious groups and other public institutions and interested parties.

CTV is providing live streaming with translation from French to English.

This is just a link.  Comments regarding the bill will not be posted here on Mixed Nuts as this site is meant only as a reference point to a place or about a subject useful website blog or service.
